Service Description: This is a mosaic dataset of LiDAR derived canopy height digital surface models. The Canopy Height digital surface model (DSM) is created using a Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) point cloud. The algorithm used to create the Canopy Surface DSM assigns the elevation of the highest return within each 0.5 meter grid cell to the grid cell center. Specialized logic preserves local maxima in the surface while smoothing (3x3 median) to force the surface to adhere to the tops of trees. For additional information regarding the creation of Canopy Height DSM, please refer to the Fusion software manual. http://forsys.cfr.washington.edu/fusion/FUSION_manual.pdf.
