wwetac/SoCal_Life_History (MapServer)

View In:   ArcGIS JavaScript   ArcGIS Online Map Viewer   ArcGIS Earth   ArcGIS Pro

Service Description: This map service is an estimate of the proportion of functional type/shrub life history species biomass in southern California. It was created using a multinomial model using a variety of covariates, including the median NDVI and median live biomass (2001-2020) and FIA plot data and time since fire (TSF). TSF was set at 32 as this is the median TSF value for all the FIA plots used in the model. Layers in this service include a 5-band image where band1 = seeders, band2 = facultative seeders, band3 = resprouters. These three bands are displayed as RGB. The model creates 5 individual proportion estimates of shrub life history types, and tree and herb components:Shrub life history types: Facultative seeders, seeders, respoutersPlant types: Tree, herb. Dominance is determined by first selecting the pixels where the proportion of eigher tree, herb, or shrub biomass is .33 or greater. For those classified as shrubs, these pixels are further broken down in the life history type (Facultative seeders, seeders, resprouters) using the same .33 rule.
