Service Description: The plot locations represented in this feature service were compiled as part of the FIRESEV project at the U.S. Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Fire Sciences Lab. They represent field measurements of Composite Burn Index, or CBI, which estimates the severity of ecological effects following wildfire. The CBI scale ranges from 0 to 3, and is often interpreted as follows: 0 to 0.1 = unburned or very low severity; 0.1 to 1.25 = low severity; 1.25 to 2.25 = moderate severity; 2.25 to 3 = high severity. A total of 542 plots in the western U.S. were collected specifically for the FIRESEV project. Full data for these plots, including locations and field photos, can be downloaded from the U.S. Forest Service Research Data Archive at https://doi.org/10.2737/RDS-2013-0017. All other plots in this feature service were collected by others (see SOURCE attribute) and shared with the FIRESEV project upon request.
