Service Description:

A map service depicting the percentage of water originating from State and private forests in the 13 Southern States. It includes the simulated available water supply from different forest ownerships at each public water system intake using the WaSSI Ecosystem Services Model ( https://forestthreats.org/research/tools/WaSSI/). This map service is used for the story maps of the project title “Quantifying the role of State and private forest lands in providing surface drinking water supply for the Southern United States” (https://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/pubs/59637). The public water system intakes are extracted from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) database.
