This GIS data layer was created from by multi-agency effort by the National Park Service and US Forest Service. Although 208 rivers are currently designated by Congress as part of the National Wild and Scenic River System, thousands more rivers were studied for designation. Agencies are responsible for protecting rivers identified as eligible or suitable for inclusion in the National Wild and Scenic River System. This tool will help agencies fulfil their management responsibilities and for the public to understand which rivers have been studied. The spatial data were referenced to the latest High Resolution National Hydrological Data Layer (NHD 1:24,000 Scale or better), published by United States Geological Survey (USGS).</SPAN></SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV> |
