Literature and Studies for Snags

Here are further details on the data for the selected species and citation. Blank cells mean that no information was given. See Literature Cited for the full reference of the citation listed here.

Species Code: CNB Species Name: Cavity-nesting birds
Decay Class:   Stand Age Or Structure: clearcut to OG
Geographic Area: Olympic Peninsula Comments: cavity nesting bird density significantly higher in "snag" plots (n=8) than snag managed plots (n=8) (P=0.012) (94 vs 55/40 ha).Plot size = 30.5 m2. Regressions given in thesis, this data is recalculated from appendices and tables in thesis, one outlier plot not used (Bonid) because post fire plot with snag densities 3.5 time higher than next closest plot and bird densities not the highest. Snag densities in "snag" plots significantly higher than "typical" plots (p=0.006; 46 vs 12.6 snags/ha);densities of cavity-nesting birds increase with density of snags >24 cm dbh (r = .80, p<.01); a plateau was never reached in bird density as snag density increased
