Integrated Biomass Resources LLC (IBR) will design, engineer and install a system to recover heat from their existing biomass boiler to increase efficiency and dry feedstock for densified energy products. The system will be designed to draft and control heat that is currently exhausted from the system into a chip dryer, thereby using existing energy to produce value added energy products and utilize more low value forest restoration biomass. This increased utilization will directly support restoration on >200 acres/year (approximately 80% USFS and 20% Private) and provide five direct, full-time manufacturing jobs, as well as numerous indirect jobs in forest restoration contracting. The project will also contribute to retaining 25 jobs at IBR. Project outcomes will include 1,000 tons of densified HeatLogs produced and sold annually from the dried material and an additional 306 MW of electricity sold annually due to the increased efficiency and production.
Objectives include: 1. Optimize the current biomass energy system by recovering waste heat. 2. Add value to currently produced clean residuals by drying them. 3. Increase usage of forest restoration residuals. 4. Increase production and sales of densified HeatLogs. 5. Increase production of electricity. 6. Provide additional full-time production jobs.
