This project will organize the world’s first Mass Timber Hackathon and a Global Mass Timber Design Competition. These open events should accelerate innovation in the emerging mass timber market, connect forward-thinking professionals and researchers across industries and countries and use new technologies to both promote the events as well as build a path between innovation, design, fabrication and a system enabling home buyers to both explore the design digitally and order a mass timber home efficiently and cost-effectively.
1. Organize and promote the first open Mass Timber Hackathon attracting diverse participants from across North America . 2. Support continuing mass timber hackathons in North America and connect them with the mass timber community in other countries and the technology and building industries. 3. Organize the first open global mass timber design competition that is company and technology neutral. Forge relationships with wood organizations, the technology and building industries to support the design competition. 4. Use new and cutting-edge technologies from the digital advertising, computer gaming, entertainment and technology industries to promote the competition, publicize the winning teams and help make the mass timber industry an early adopter of new technology. 5. Support the creation of the necessary CAD models and complementary digital data to make the fabrication and assembly of the winning design available for purchase to the public to uniquely offer a pathway connecting great design with manufacturing, assembly and the market place.
