Carbon12 is a tentative 8-story, 95 foot tall heavy timber framed building currently in design in Portland, OR. Currently, building code allows heavy timber framed buildings to go up to 5 stories (65 feet) tall. In order for construction to proceed, it is necessary to increase the allowable story and height allowance in the state and city building codes by proving the structural and fire safety of mass-timber building products in larger scale projects.
Project objectives are:
1. Structural engineering - engineering solutions for wood buildings of this scale.
2. Fire engineering - a fire protection report for the tentative building.
3. Permitting - a permitting review approval process through both the State of Oregon and the City of Portland.
