<idAbs>Key area is a feature class in the Rangeland Management data set. It represents an area where short term monitoring occurs within a pasture. The area corresponds to tabular data in the RIMS (Rangeland Information Management System).</idAbs>
<idPurp>The key area feature class designates boundaries to establish extent of livestock distribution and management. This is a published layer created by combining GIS data managed by each National Forest and attribute data stored in the Forest Service RIMS database application. This dataset is designed for reporting and analysis and is not used to enter or edit data. The data will be used to aid in the analysis of livestock movement patterns and other needs internal and external public may determine this information is helpful for.</idPurp>

<measDesc>Data stewards have been relied on to validate the data quality and accuracy of the boundaries for allotments, pastures, and key areas. Pasture and key area boundaries have been identified using various methods through the years like GPS or digitizing. Spatial data comes from the district and is consolidated at the forest level. This will be a consolidated national extent of the data entered at the lowest level of the agency. Data quality is dependent on quality data maintenance by local data stewards. By having the ETL create the allotment feature class from all active pastures the quality of that data will be directly dependent on the pasture data.</measDesc>
