<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Community Wildfire Defense Grants (CWDG) is a program administered by the Forest Service to help at-risk communities and Tribes plan for and reduce the risk of wildfire. The program was established in the Public Law 117-58, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law or BIL, Section 40803 (f), November 2021. The first round of grant awardees was announced in March of 2023, with additional awards expected loosely on an annual basis.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
This CWDG dataset is a list of applicants for federal funding to support the development of Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) or execution of protection projects associated with CWPPs. The dataset lists the application amount, application type, and whether the project was selected for funding. Application location is only accurate for general community identification purposes. Accomplishment reporting and precise work locations are not included in this data set. CWDG is one source for funding to create or update CWPPs. The resulting CWPPs are one of the primary components of Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), as described by the Healthy Forest Restoration Act of 2003 (HFRA). This dataset does not attempt to map the results of CWPP analysis.

Feature locations used the Latitude & Longitude data submitted in the application process whenever possible. Obvious errors and omissions were manually adjusted to match communities that submitted requests. Latitude & Longitude data were then converted to a point using ArcGIS XY Table To Point function.

Whether the applying community currently has, or will adopt prior to grant award, an ordinance or regulation that requires that roofs for new building construction, as well as the reroofing or replacement of a roof on existing buildings, adheres to standards that are similar to, or more stringent than, the roof construction standards established by the National Fire Protection Association or applicable model building code established by the International Code Council.
